Debra Wuliger is a contemporary painter whose spiritual inquiry informs both her abstract geometric paintings and figurative work. An avid reader since childhood, The Princess and the Goblins by George McDonald introduced her to the Divine Feminine and the intuitive thread.
Following this intuitive thread led Debra to an intensive year of figure study at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland, Ohio. Here Debra met a mentor who advised her to become a life long learner, always creating projects and seeking knowledge along the way.
Receiving the Ella Fountain Pratt Emerging Artist Grant in Durham, North Carolina, encouraged Debra to follow the thread into fine art documentary work. Debra listened to people’s life changing stories while taking photographs of them, transcribed their stories onto blogs, and created a variety of portraits in three series: Capturing Caldwell, Wisdom Collects and The Raging Grannies.
In January 2019 the thread took a sharp turn and led to creating hard edged geometric paintings: Harmonic Vibration Patterns. In this series, Debra’s intuitive work blends with objective scientific thought to explore the Universe as light and sound vibration and how these vibrations cause matter to take form. Debra currently lives in Durham, North Carolina with her husband Joel and her dog, Tessa.
