I also wanted to incorporate the face into the abstraction. It is funny about this. The dancers told me, " Thank-you, but we don't need faces," while "Shadow Dancer" and "My Bike Sings" said quite clearly that they did. This happened when I was painting the "Women" series. There was one abstraction, " A Woman of Decided Opinion" that I felt was complete without a figure and when I didn't listen and drew a figure in, I was told quite strongly, " Get That Woman Off My Lap." My paintings are bossy.
While I was painting this new series I had this strong need to let them incubate without sharing them. That they needed to grow in the quiet darkness until they were complete. It feels good to finally throw the doors open and let them dance out.
